I started with a colored photograph of Sid, the cat who owns our office, taken by my friend Catherine van der Goes, and created a black-and-white sketch. The background was the office floor, painted green and peeling; I didn't save a copy of the photo with the background, but below is a small sample copy of the original cat in color, with a small sample version of the sketch.
