and ethnic cleansing still proceeds in East Timor

but the Serbs have given up
so we think
there may
be peace.

The women in Afghanistan are still being stoned
and Madeline Albright

that it's despicable

and we think
there may
be peace

policemen shot and killed a homeless woman
who might have been driving a stolen shopping cart
and was armed with a screwdriver

and we think
there may
be peace

all we can do is speak out
or
we can speak with
the Chiapas and the Africans and the Muslims in our midst
we can speak with our police
we can speak with ourselves

and we think
there may
be peace
