Most of the fruit is out of reach. I thought I was in luck when I found some bunches on the ground. When I tasted one, I thought I&#8217;d made a mistake and poisoned myself. Turns out elderberries ARE edible &#8211; but they taste a lot better when dried, fermented, or cooked with lots of sugar!<\/p>\n<p>I think I have enough to make some <a title=\"Recipe at Wellness Mama\" href=\"http:\/\/wellnessmama.com\/1888\/how-to-make-elderberry-syrup-for-flu-prevention\/\" target=\"_blank\">elderberry syrup<\/a>.\u00a0 If I had money (and space!) for the equipment, I&#8217;d use <a title=\"Recipe at honest-food.net\" href=\"http:\/\/honest-food.net\/2011\/08\/04\/how-to-make-elderberry-syrup\/\" target=\"_blank\">this recipe<\/a> from Hank Shaw.<\/p>\n<p>There is a lot of fascinating <a title=\"Elderberry lore from Arthur Lee Jacobson\" href=\"http:\/\/www.arthurleej.com\/a-elder.html\" target=\"_blank\">lore<\/a> about elderberry trees!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are some elderberry trees on South Jackson, near us!
