Sean Smith

As a youth, I was lucky to have a photography teacher named Paul Dalquist. It was he who first encouraged me and introduced me to my creative side. That time was an epiphany - I knew I had it in me. More pragmatic concerns forced me to shelve those dreams for many years. It wasn’t until much later, under the oppressive weight of life’s struggles, that I found a way back to artistic expression. My grandfather acted as a model for me. He knew how to listen to the land, intuit meaning, and communicate those messages. Both my poetry and my visual art are reflections on, and products of, my life experiences. Whether I am carving in wood, or sculpting in words, or painting, my aim is to express and communicate with others.
