I have participated in “this world of making” for most of my life. My mother’s people were from the country, close to the earth and to the ground. Most everyone had interest in making things, so I grew up with fine examples of the kind of satisfaction that folk art brings. The subject of my art is people, as they interest and fascinate me endlessly. Though I attempt to explain this fascination through images, I seek not to please anyone but myself. My creativity is, in some ways, enhanced by my partial blindness. I make art out of a need to escape all that surrounds me.
