Invitation

Come be with me with the woods awhile
where I can touch all the colors of leaf
with rain-drenched fingers,
softer and sweeter
than my skin in the city.

Come be with me with the woods awhile
where I can breathe every flavor of air
with wind-swept lungs,
fuller and deeper
than breath dares in the city.

We will take our grownup clothes off
and throw them in the berry bush.

Our toes will find every shape of rock
in the creek.

Our laughter will make a sky
full of new birds.

Come be with me with the woods awhile
where I can see the child
that lives in your heart

stand in the sun.
