My toes reach down
through the rich earth
to the bones of my ancestors
run through the marrow of their lives
soak up the fertilized sediment of their story
My thighs
cradle the generations
that will build on my bones
My heart
beats with the steady drum of those
who dance over the horizon ahead of me
My blood sings
with the high sweet voices
of those who follow us
My eyes see the future
My hands
reach for stars
